Tea Tree (Melaleuca) is a shrub native to Gondwana aka Australia & has been used medicinally for millennia. The Bundjalung people used the plant in many ways including topically for skin infections.
The smell that comes from a Tea Tree plant is antibiotic, antiinflammatory & antiseptic, meaning that just smelling it will help treat bacterial infections in the upper respiratory tract, ideal if you are suffering from smoke inhalation. Put a couple of drops of the oil in an air diffuser, on a hanky/bandana to sniff as needed or in a bowl of hot water so that you can inhale the steam. Pure Tea Tree extract can be toxic when taken internally or applied to the skin causing iritation & inflammation, putting Melaleuca in a carrier oil will help to reduce these reactions.
